In this study unit the focus lies on the following

Understanding the nomenclature, structures,
properties and reactions of chemical
functional groups found in synthetic and natural
organic compounds. (Knowledge)
Awareness of the importance of organic chemistry
in current materials sustainability and circular
economy issues, with a focus on bio-based
materials and green chemistry. (Attitude)
Ability to apply knowledge of organic chemical
structures and properties to finding solutions to
theoretical and experimental problems. (Skill)

The lectures will follow a mechanistic approach to
learning organic structures, properties and
reactions. We will cover the main functional
groups and their reactions and applications in the
fields of engineering, sustainability and
materials science.

The classroom demonstrations and exercises, and
laboratory exercises will provide training the
practical dimensions of organic chemistry.
