Kompetensmål
The aim of the course is to develop the student's abilities in the design and analysis of engineering components. In particular stress, transverse shear, stress transformations and deflection will be covered. This includes a deeper understanding of the field of Mechanics of Materials.
Läranderesultat
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
Calculate stresses in members due to shear
Design beams and shafts under combined loading conditions
Perform stress transformation calculations
Calculate the deflection of beams
To be able to use COMSOL beam module for the analysis of beams.
Perform a laboratory bending test according to SFS-EN ISO 178

Förkunskaper
A prerequisite of "Mechanics of Materials 1 (Strength of Materials)" is required.
It is assumed the student is familiar with chapters 1-6 of the course book before starting this course. This course will cover chapters 7-12.

Students may choose to enrol to the optional bending test in itslearning. There is no compulsory attendance for the course.
Litteratur
"Mechanics of Materials", Hibbeler, 10th edition. The student is required to read one chapter of this text every week. The chapters covered are 7- 13. The exam is based on chapters 7-12. The exam does not include advanced sections of the text indicated by an asterisk (*).
