The aim of the course is to give the student basic
skills in business mathematics and statistics.

After course completion the student is expected
to
-master percentage calculations and
understand how the value added tax is calculated
- understand how indexes are calculated and what
they are used for
- know how to perform interest and currency
calculations
- be familiar with different types of credit
forms and ways to perform investment
calculations
- understand the basics of price setting
- understand basic statistical concepts and
methods and
- know how to use SPSS for some elementary
statistical data processing

Percentages, Indexes, Interest, Currency, Loans,
Price setting, Investment calculations, Graphs
and tables, Mean, median,
Standard Deviation, Correlation and regression,
the normal distribution, Some common statistical
tests, such as t- and chi-tests.

Basic skills in mathematics

Business Math

The course program, how we work on the course,
and the contents of the course can be found in
the course compendium (Part 1) which can be
downloaded from Itslearning.
Mathlab will be held once/1-2 week: you are
welcome to come ask questions, work on the
exercises, and get help. The time table will be
available when the course starts.

To pass the course each part of the course must
be separately passed, hence you need a minimum
of 25 (of 50) points in the mathematics exam, a
minimum
of 15 (of 30) points in the statistics exam, and
a minimum of 10 (of 20) points for statistics
assignments.
