Akava online course enrolment instructions

Akava is offering a free course regarding the Finnish working life for international students. The course is a self-study online course with excellent content, that would for sure help you in integrating to the working life in Finland.

Join Start to Finnish – A Course on Finnish Working Life 

We are excited to announce the chance to participate in a new online course titled "Start to Finnish”. This self-learning experience is designed exclusively for forward-thinking students eager to understand the nuances of the culture, practices, and legislation of working in Finland.

Course Duration & Structure:

The pilot of the course will run for 8 weeks. Each week, a new learning module or task page will be unlocked, allowing you to delve into different stages of career development at your own pace:

                          Now: Course registration and Welcome-page are open! 

                          28th October: Features of Finnish society orientation module opens

                          4th November: When looking for work module opens

                          11th November: When starting work module opens

                          18th November: When working module opens

                          25th November: When work ends module and Feedback-page open

                          Time to complete the course and download your certificate!

                          16th December: The course platform closes

Mandatory tasks

To receive a certificate of completion from the course, you will need to complete the following tasks:

  • One mandatory Your turn -task per module (5 in total)
  • Reflect on what you have learned at the end of each module
  • Complete the course feedback at the end of the course

Even though there are no joint lectures during the course, Your turn -tasks will provide the opportunity to connect with peers from +15 different universities or universities of applied sciences in Finland. The course encourages discussion and sharing experiences, and we utilize AI to bind these discussions together. All discussions are also moderated, and your privacy has been taken into account.

Additionally, Akava will host weekly Coffee Breaks online. You can join Akava and other students online and chat about that week’s topics. These sessions are a voluntary addition to the course.

Requirements for Participation:

You can be at any stage of your Bachelor’s or Master’s studies to participate in the course. You only need an internet connection, a mobile device or computer access, and interest in learning more about Finnish working life. 

You can also be a PhD student to attend the course, but please do notice that many of the topics covered are not directly applicable to working towards your degree.
