Competency aims

Within this study unit we will focus on the
following competencies:

You deepen your understanding in physical training
and fitness testing as well as in the body´s
adaptation mechanisms of physical activity and
exercise. You know the different physical
qualities, their training methods and
physiological basis in the human body. You can
consider the relevance of physical training and
fitness testing for health, functional capacity
and sports performance.

You understand and can utilize flexibly different
methods for physical training and testing. You can
in an ethically sustainable way choose, organize,
perform, and assess physical training and testing.
You can adjust your knowledge and skills in
physical training and testing for different target
groups according to their needs and goals. You are
ready and eager to develop in your work. You can
critically use health technology.

Your way to work is holistic and health promoting
that takes physical training and testing into
account as a resource to develop human health and
physical qualities. You are aware of the basic
values and ethical principles in sports coaching
and fitness testing. Your way to work is based on
the principles of ethically sustainable
development.​

Learning outcomes

You can explain what exercise performance means
and comprises of. You can explain how physical
training affects the human body and analyze and
critically assess exercise training and training
methods for different physical qualities. You can
explain what high-quality fitness testing means.
You can explain the contents, theoretical
background, and the purpose of use of different
fitness testing methods. You can compare and
critically evaluate different fitness testing
methods. You can present and argue over your view
about fitness testing and exercise training.

You can systematically plan according to the set
goals, execute, and evaluate exercise training as
a whole and training of individual physical
qualities in a shorter and longer term. You can
utilize this knowledge in different sports and for
different target groups. You can also
systematically and appropriately plan, execute,
and evaluate fitness testing. You can perform the
most common fitness tests in practice, use
relevant test equipment, interpret test results,
and utilize them when planning training. You can
choose proper tests for different target groups
and activities. You can take safety into account
when testing.

You work according to your values and ethical
principles and take responsibility when working in
sports coaching and fitness testing. You show
respect for clients with divergent backgrounds and
needs.
