Competency aims

The aim of the course is to be able to design a mould for a typical plastic engineered component that has undercuts outside and inside the component and holes going through the sidewalls.

Learning outcomes

  • Ability to incorporate advanced components into the mould design.
  • Using Moldflow to aid in the design of plastic parts and metal moulds.
  • Production of a complete mould design for a plastic component using CAD software mould tooling (Solid Works).

Course contents

  • Cold runner systems.
  • Use of side action cams.
  • Project design using standard libraries.
  • Analysis of part design with Moldflow.
