Competency aims

The aim of the course is to be able to design a mould for a typical plastic engineered component that has undercuts outside and inside the component and holes going through the sidewalls.

Learning outcomes

- Ability to incorporate advanced components into the mould design.
- Using Moldflow to aid in the design of plastic parts and metal moulds.
- Production of a complete mould design for a plastic component using CAD software mould tooling (Solid Works).

Course contents

- Cold runner systems.
- Use of side action cams.
- Project design using standard libraries.
- Analysis of part design with Moldflow.
