In April, Arcada's students have gained access to two new services that present courses to students: Campus Online cross-institutional studies and Opin.fi. This post is to describe the differences between these two.

Both services make visible studies that can be completed by Arcada's students, e.g. as development studies or optional studies. The courses are produced by other higher education institutions: Opin.fi currently has courses by 29 Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences, while Campus Online cross-institutional studies are only offered by Universities of applied sciences.

  • The Opin.fi service has a focus on non-degree students, while Campus Online focuses solely on degree students
  • Courses in Opin.fi are offered through Open University of Applied Sciences or Open University of Finnish higher education institutions
  • All courses offered through Campus Online are online, whereas courses offered through Opin.fi can be offered online or at a campus
  • Opin.fi studies may be subject to a fee, while the Campus Online cross-institutional studies are free for degree program students registered as present at Arcada (BA and MA)
  • Opin.fi makes courses visible, but you register to courses via the university's own website. You can register for Campus Online cross-institutional studies through your own Sisu
  • Before you as a degree student registers for a course, you need to make sure that the course fits your degree at Arcada by being in contact with the study counsellor or degree programme director in advance. This applies to both Campus Online and Opin.fi.
  • For studies found through Opin.fi, you must apply for credit transfer after completing a course, while completed Campus Online studies are automatically visible in your study plan in Sisu (if you have placed it correctly before enrolling to it)
