The aims of the course are:
Knowledge and understanding
After completing the course, students

perspectives in media history,
- be able to account for the Western
media historical development
- be able to to reflect on how the
media
shaped by the history and the importance
of these media had
for man

After completing the course, students

- be able to produce an independent
essay on the subject matter
- be able to verbally discuss and
problematize media history
literature with others

Evaluation ability and approach
After completing the course, students

- be able to apply a critical approach
to their environment,- relate the
media historical knowledge to
socially relevant and universal social
problem areas.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is
expected to be able to
understand how media and communication
has helped to shape
our communities through the period of
late modernity.

Course contents

The course gives a first overview of
Media and Communication as
fields of study and presents selected
concepts, theories, traditions
and
central sources in the literature. It
follows the development of the
social,
technological, economic and political
events through history.
Some basic media theoretical concepts
are introduced to each
lesson for after qualifying courses
allow the student to
creating a critical perspective on media
and communication
world works today.
Special focus is on the mass media, film
history, the Internet
development and social media
functionality and interaction
society.

The subject is vast and the course aims
to a
basic plan to create an understanding of
the role of media in the
modern
communities. In addition, treated the
social impact of new
forms of communication and information
dissemination is, from
invention of the printing press to the
global
communication networks and mobile
applications of social
media we have today. Woven into the
course are a solid
background literature that serves as the
gateway for those who want
to learn
more about the subject. The course is
therefore a natural introduction
to the
academic thinking and writing. In
addition, every two weeks
of course, be a film screening as
parallel connects theories
with important contemporary works in
film history.

To the content should not be a list of
dates and events intertwine
the historical development of media in a
discussion about how
development of media affects the man as
an individual and

The examination consists of an essay in
which students discuss two
of
the traditions that are represented in
the course, their relevance; the
ways in which they have developed; how
they have been applied, and

organizational, textually,
analytically). The essay is written
individually in scope 10-15 pages and
will discuss rather
but to summarize the main points of the
arguments.

Disposition weekly
The course runs over two periods. Every
other week, it
lecture based and every week we see a
movie
relates to the theory. Each theory
lesson based on short extracts (10-
20
s) from the classic media texts which
the student has two weeks
to read. The goal is that we can have a
good discussion on the
subject in
lesson.
