Competency aims

The purpose of the course is to learn creativity and innovation management, i.e. to help students to turn creative ideas into useful media products/services.
With the help of theory, and lectures students are guided to develop sustainable media products.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to develop and manage media innovation processes.

Course contents

This is an intensive course that introduces the concepts of innovation and human-centered design to those working towards experimentation, artistic innovation and social change. Over the
duration of course, you collaborate in design teams to complete online and offline coursework. Participants are encouraged to test their imaginative limits and broaden their horizons through research.
This is done by testing and enacting different experiments and analysing their results. During the course you present
- a prototype,
-a project plan on how and in what context you intend to develop the prototype into an innovation
In addition to this you test your prototype in distributed innovation environment (such as a crowdsourced platform or event "Hackathon) + submit a written analysis and refekction on this experience.
The aim of the course is that you become a more innovative problem solver by building up your prototyping, experimentation and communication skills.
You also learn how to do research online with nethnographic method.

The Course structure is based on the innovation process as described in The Fieldguide to Human centered Design.

Assessment requirements

To pass the course the student should show an understanding of the literature and pass assignment 'Prototype' and Nethnography

Required reading:
Design Kit: The Field Guide to Human-Centered Design.

Assesment criteria
We assess the prototypes and the assignment "Analysis'. The prototypes
are measured against these criteria.
1. Social and environmental benefit ? how does your design benefit society and/or the environment?
2. Research and insights ? how did you investigate this issue? What were your key insights?
3. Design thinking ? how did your research and insights inform your solution? How did you develop, test, iterate and refine your concept?
Demonstrate the journey you?ve been through to the end result
4.. Magic ? we are looking for a bit of ?magic? ? a surprising solution that delights
