C. CRITICAL AND ANALYTICAL MEDIA INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE

Learning outcomes

Knowledge of: - the main interpretative theories that apply to media texts; - the main concepts and other intellectual tools to the critical analysis of media texts; - the main critical approaches to media studies to problem relating to the production, distribution and consumption of media texts

Skills: - Analytical skills associated with critical epistemic competences (understanding, interpretation, formulation and communication of opinions, etc.). - Communicative skills: the formulation of knowledge-based opinions about media and media texts based on systematic and critical analysis of media and media texts. - Critical media literacy skills, related to the understanding, and critical usage of media texts. ? Interpretative skills applied to the role of the media in the social construction of society - Evaluative ethical skills to the evaluation of the social impact of both overt and or latent content of multimodal texts.

Attitudes: - predisposition to democratic communication and critical investigation. - inclination to relate media work, production, distribution and consumption to issue of social justice and equality

is compulsory. To qualify for credits, students have
to attend no less than 80% of the course.

Assessment requirements

Students assessment and grading is based on four
elements: attendance (at least 80%) and three
exercises. The first exercise consists of tests on
the textbook. The second exercise consists in
reading & comprehension on selected articles. The
third is a short essay on a book of choice from a
list that will be published at the beginning of
the course.
