Competency aims
The aim of the course is to understand the how the web can be
used for production, distribution and consumption. The course
will therefore look at web services such as Box.net, Facebook,
Flickr, MySpace, YouTube and Zoho. It will look at Wordpress as
an application for producing dynamic web sites with no need for
programming. During the course each student will be given their
own Wordpress-based portfolio, which they will customise for
their own use. This will be the portfolio which students will use
to store, display and present their work throughout their time at
Arcada. Students will learn how to use themes and plug-ins to
expand the site; how to customise a theme using graphics of
their own design; and how to create and manipulate graphical
images for use on their site and elsewhere on the web.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to offer
considered views about a wide range of web services; demonstrate
an ability to use a suite of services effectively; manage and
customise their own Wordpress-based web portfolio.
