Competency aims
The aim of the course is to understand the pediatric patient in emergency situations and pre-hospital-care.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to;
- understand the specific problems, needs and desires of a child in emergency care
- realise the impotrance of the parents for the small child
- use different strategies when encountering the child patient
- know the most common injuries and diseases that need emergency care in childhood and the treatment of them
Course contents
The child in acute care. The development of a child. Children and pain, fears, sickness and death. The importance of the family. Physiological parameters in evaluating the health of a child. Examining a child. The battered child.
