Competency aims

The aim of the course is:
- to improve spoken fluency in routine
customer-service situations in the field.
- to develop the student’s ability to interpret
and comprehend authentic English text.
- to develop fluency in both spoken and written
language for various purposes, with focus on
the field of study.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is
expected to:
Reading
- be able to understand, interpret, and explain
terminology related to occupational therapy
without major difficulty.
- have developed his/her reading skills and
acquired essential vocabulary to support
communication in a professional context.
Listening
- be able to understand the main points of
standard speech on familiar matters regularly
encountered at work, in school, at leisure.
Spoken Production
- to give clear, rather detailed descriptions
about services or processes, can give
instructions to clients.
Spoken Interaction
- be able to interact with native speakers with
a high degree of fluency in customer-service,
negotiations and debates.
Writing
- be able to give their personal details,
relate their education and work experience.
- be able to write a letter of application and
CV in an appropriate style.
- be familiar with e-mail and business writing
etiquette.
- be able to produce fundamental for the field
typical documents.

Assessment requirements

To pass the course the student should pass the
following examinations:
Examination 1 Sufficient activity in classes.
Examination 2 Write a report using the correct
structure.
Examination 3 Produce a well-structured summary
(analysis).
Examination 4 Hold a presentation.
Examination 5 Produce a work application & CV
suitable to the field.

Further smaller oral and written assignments
may be included as needed.

The examinations contribute to the final grade
as follows:
Written assignments according to extent of
assignment up to 25% each.
At least one oral presentation must be held in
order to pass the course.
Attendance up to 20% and is graded accordingly:
