Surgical practice:

After completing the study unit (knowledge):
- You know how the documentation and reporting
process takes place in surgical care
-You know the most common drug groups and their
indications/contraindications in the care of the
surgical patient
- You know the care and can prevent pain and
nausea with medical and non-medical methods

After completing the study unit (skill):
You can implement the basics of surgical patient
care
- You can systematically assess and evaluate the
surgical patient's condition using various
measuring instruments
- You can supervise the patient before, during and
after a procedure/operation

After completing the study unit (approach):
-You identify, reflect on and analyze surgical
care from an ethical perspective
- You understand patient- and drug safety in
surgical care
- You understand the importance of aseptics in
surgical care and act accordingly
-You understand the nurse's role in the inter-
professional collaboration in the care of a
surgical patient
- You understand which procedures are performed
and can prepare the patient for different
procedures and assist with them

Tutoring practice:

After completing the study unit (knowledge):
-You have basic knowledge of different supervision
methods and know how to adapt them in care

After completing the study unit (skill):
-You can plan, implement and evaluate supervision
and teaching based on client and group, in
collaboration with other experts in nursing
-You can implement supervision and teaching
methods, which are based on the patient and are
suitable in the current care situation
-You can use appropriate existing and produce new
teaching and tutorial materials

After completing the study unit (approach):
-You can identify and understand the ethical
principles for guidance in healthcare

-Practical training basic care 5 cr
-Practical training internal medicine 10 cr
-Started course: Surgical Care 5 cr, Nursing
pedagogy and outpatient care 5cr

-Clinical practice: Clinical care (surgical care)
-Learning- and tutoring practice

-The work shifts are made according to the
supervisor's and the unit's planning. 38h/week in
three-shift work

-The internship assignment is done on itslearning.
Reporting of hours worked and the evaluation
should be submitted to itslearning

-Vaccination certificates and investigation of
infectious diseases are followed according to
standard directives and the welfare area's
requirements

-In addition, the vice chancellor's decision
6/2020 on sufficient language skills in Swedish
and Finnish applies when an internship is to be
booked

-Medication calculation exam completed no later
than 2 weeks before the start of the internship or
according to the examiner's requirements
