After completing the study unit:

You can systematically assess and evaluate the
condition of the internal medicine patient with
the help of various measuring instruments, as well
as perform the basics of the internal medicine
patient's care. (Knowledge)

You can explain and justify the choices of your
caring actions in relation to the basics of
nursing science. You can also develop the care
based on this. (Skill)

You develop the ability to implement evidence-
based nursing and perform your care activities
according to current care recommendations. You
work for sustainable development in nursing.

internal medicine diseases and select and perform
appropriate care actions based on the patient's

the need for care for a patient in need of urgent

and know the most common medication groups used.

Course contents

Clinical practice in internal medicine, 6 weeks.
The work shifts are made according to the
supervisor's and the unit's planning. 38h/week in
three-shift work.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Clinical Practice: Basic Care
Internal Medicine (theory course)
Medication calculation exam completed no later
than 2 weeks before the start of clinical practice
or according to the examiner's requirements.

Vaccination certificates and investigation of
infectious diseases are followed according to
standard directives and the welfare area's
requirements.

In addition, the vice chancellor's decision 6/2020
on sufficient language skills in Swedish and
Finnish applies when a clinical practice is to be
booked.
