Competency aims
In this study unit the focus lies on the following
competencies:
- initiative, credibility, honesty, sense of
responsibility and ability to cooperate in
practical work.
- assessment of the need for care and supervision
of clients in the most common healthproblems
through the contact channels available.
- knowledge and insight into the health promotion,
prevention and rehabilitative work.
- professional and health-promoting approach.
- active participation in the work of the public
health nurse;
- knowledge of their own strengths and weaknesses
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is
expected to:
- be able to do assessment of the need for care in
the most common contacts at an outpatient clinic
through the various channels of client contact
available (reception, telephone, digital
channels).
- perform care actions for the most common health
problems in outpatient care.
- guide clients on lifestyle issues regarding
common diseases.
- guide in the care of chronic diseases according
to good care practices and established care paths.
- apply their theoretical knowledge in practice in
the outpatient clinic.
- develop a health-promoting approach.
- be able to communicate, respond to and guide
people of different ages and life situations.
- be able to plan, realize and report on care.
- understand the importance of confidentiality and
balance in the relationship with different
professional partners having the client in focus.
Course contents
4 weeks practical training, with 35 weekly hours at
outpatient clinic v. 5-8 or 10-13. Reflection
assignment.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Completed theory and practice during basic
studies, academic years 1-3.
Participation in the theory course Public Health
Work.
In addition, the pro rector´s decision 6/2020 on
sufficient language skills in Swedish and Finnish
when practical training is to be booked.
Additional information
The work schedules are made according to the supervisor's and the unit's planning.
The practical training assignment is submitted on itslearning.
Reporting of hours worked and the evaluation should be submitted to itslearning.
Vaccination certificates and assessment of infectious diseases are followed according to standard directives and the welfare area's requirements.
In addition, the pro rector's decision 6/2020 on sufficient language skills in Swedish and Finnish applies when an practical training is to be booked.
Medication calculation exam completed no later than 2 weeks before the start of the practical training or according to the examiner's requirements.
