Competency aims

The aim of the course is that the student develops patient-safe competence in drug treatment in mental and intoxicant drug treatment services.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected
to be able to:
- understand the specificities of patient safety at care work with people with mental health problems and abuse
-understand the basics of clinical pharmacology in drug treatment of the most common psychological problems and psychiatric diseases and can apply the knowledge in nursing
-can supervise the patient and their relatives in
drug treatment and self-monitoring
-can perform various forms of medication calculation flawlessly and understand the importance in nursing

Course contents

patient safety
- drug and medication safety
- the most common groups of medicines and its
uses, mechanisms of action and ways of administration
- the therapeutic effects of medication, side effects and interactions and interaction mechanisms
- self-medication
- supervision in drug treatment, to get the patient to commit and engage in care
- applications for medication calculation
