Competency aims

The aim of the study unit is: The student develops
competence in mental health and substance abuse
care.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the study unit the student is
expected to be able to:

Understand the basics of the medical treatment of
the most common mental health disorders and
psychiatric diseases and know how to apply the
information in nursing

Know how to utilize the experimental knowledge of
the patient and their immediate circle in guidance
and the immediate network in supporting daily
coping

Know how to encounter and maintain treatment-based
interaction in a resource-based manner that
promotes the mental health of a customer/patient
with mental health and substance abuse problems
and prevents disruptions

Know how to use methods that support and promote
resources and justify their actions with evidence-
based knowledge and treatment recommendations

Know how to implement service coordination and
understand the impact and cost-effectiveness of
basic services

Know how to apply current social services and
healthcare programmes

Know how to act to promote customer, patient and
occupational safety
