Competency aims
The aim of course is that students perform server installations in Windows and Linux environment including peripherals, system software and services.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:
- have knowledge of components of a computer network
- understand the relationship between components and network protocols
- understand principles of different server platforms
- install and configure different server system software
- install and configure workstations and net printers

- Components: hubs, switches, routers
- Server Platforms: Windows 2003 Server, Linux Samba
- cabelling and cable types
- wireless networks and security issues in WLANs
- installation of workstations and printers
- installation, administration and security issues
