Competency aims
The objective of the course is to practice and learn modern numerical methods for solving management problems.
Learning outcomes
After succesful completion of the course the student is expected to be able to:
- Describe, evaluate and select process and flow types for given industrial operation
- Know and use methods for forecasting of sales and materials requirements
- Describe and use various types of layouts
- Produce a layout for an industrial plant, by different methods
- Evaluate the goodness of a plant layout by the transport work method
- Describe and calculate materials requirements for a given process
Course contents
Course content:
- Process types and process design, flow types.
- Forecasting methods
- Facility design, layout methods and planning.
- Material requirements planning, JIT systems, lean engineering
- MPR I & II, DRP, ERP basics
- Recent hot topics in operations management.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Required courses: Industrial Economics, Cost Management, Practical Manufacturing, Manufacturing Processes. Recommended courses: Logistics, Statistics, Industrial Relations, Organisational Behaviour.
