Competency aims
Student is able to map and identify environmental impact of different business activities. She/ he also understand the framework and meaning of environmental management. Student can analyze the best possible tool options for managing environmental impact in the hospitality and tourism industry
The aim for quality management is to be familiar with different kind of quality system and certificate. How the quality can be described in a service enterprises. Student is also able to use some of in Finland used quality programs.
Learning outcomes
5 credits course is divided in two parts, Environmental Responsibility in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry and in Finnish course content is quality. Both parts will be presented separate:
Upon successful completion of the course, the student
•understands the concept of environmental management in the hospitality and tourism industry
•understands the content and process of environmental management as a part of strategic corporate development
•has the skills to take part in developing environmental responsibility operations on the corporate level
•has the capacity to analyze the state of environmental management
•has skills to participate in an environmental management team
Of quality in Tourism the student will understand different quality systems in general and specially in Tourism management. Student will also learn how to use different instruments to measure the quality.
Course contents
The course Environmental Responsibility in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry consists of following:
•Concepts of environmental management
•Corporate environmental impacts and sustainability
•Framework of policy guidelines and regulations guiding hospitality and tourism industry
•Specific environmental management systems, such as EMAS, ISO14001 and Green Office
•Environmental management systems, planning and tools
•Implementation of an environmental management system step-by-step
•Future challenges
Quality as a success factor for a tourism company

-Tool for develop the quality
-Measurement of quality
Prerequisites and co-requisites
First and second year studies, minimum 80ects.

The course Quality as a success factor for a tourism company ( language is Finnish) will start at Arcada the 1stSeptember 2014 at 4 p.m.in D4109.Introduction is obligatory for everyone. This course is a co-operation with Haaga-Helia Porvoo,lecturer Anne Koppatz. Moodle is the learning environment.
