Competency aims
Wordpress has becaome the default platform for
building data-driven websites. This course aims to
introduce students to advanced uses of Wordpress,
well beyond its origins as a blogging platform.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course you will understand how
to:
- use Wordpress efficiently;
- customise Wordpress to clients needs;
- extend Wordpress through external additions
- extend Wordpress through self-created code.
Course contents
The course will cover how to:
- use Wordpress categories and tags efficiently;
- create Wordpress menus and taxonomies;
- use plugins and widgets;
- customise Wordpress themes;
- create a Wordpress theme from scratch;
- base a theme on a grid;
Prerequisites and co-requisites
You will need to have an understanding of html and
css. You will also need an understanding of xml.
You will need to have some basic knowledge of php
or actionscript.
Everybody doing this course will already have
completed courses in these subjects, so you should
therefore make an effort to revise your knowledge
in these areas before this course begins.
