Competency aims

The objective of this course is to introduce students to simple series, Fourier series and Fourier transforms.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course the student is expected to
- know how a seqence is related to a series
- be able to develop and solve problems involving arithmetic and geometric series.
- be able to linearize functions using first order Taylor polynomials
- be able to approximate a function in an interval using Taylor and Maclaurin series
- be able to identify a periodic function
- be able to identify odd and even functions
- be able to find the Fourier series representation of a function
- be able to find the Fourier transform of a function
- know of some properties of the Fourier transform
