Competency aims
The aim of the course is the promotion and development of visual awareness.
The key objective of the course is to encourage students to look at film from a design perspec)ve. Students will analyze film focusing on the visual design, learning to see film as a cohesive visual world and learning how to create that world and tell a visual story. Students will apply knowledge and techniques discussed on the course to develop their own visual plan for their final work films, this work will be presented at the end of the course.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to know
the role and working methods of production designer, costume designer and makeup artist. - The concept of a film as a cohesive visual world which must function and tell a story,
- How to work with a designer in preproduction,
- How to communicate using visual research to present their ideas,
- To gather and to present their visual research and ideas in a professional manner to others.
Course contents
A variety of teaching methods will be used during this course. These will consist of: lectures and presentations, film screenings and active group discussions. The students will also complete their own work during the course and will have individual tutorials during that time. Students will be required to present their ideas in a professional manner to the group as they would in real work.
