The aim of the course is that the student gets basic knowledge in
- computer architecture
- the operating system of a computer
- the network interface of a computer
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to describe
- the architecture and characteristics of processors, types of instruction sets, memory adressing and interrupts
- the memory hierarchy in computers
- serial and parallel I/O systems of computer
- parallelism and pipelining in computer systems
- the operating system of a computer
- the network interface of computers and access networks

Assessment requirements
Final exam and exercises must be approved. Exercises are approved when at least half of the maxumum score for exercises are obtained. In the course mark the final exam has the weight 2/3 and the exercises have the weight 1/3.
