In this study unit the focus will be for you to
build the following
competences:
- General business competence, building an ability
to move from specialist role to a business leader
role.

- Competence in managing and expanding a business
in changing conditions

- Competence in international business conduct,
spoken and written business communication,
teamwork

Learning outcomes

After completing the study unit, you:
(knowledge)
- can look at the business as a whole (= more than
own professional
competence/specialist area) and have an ability to
see how different
functions are integrated and affect one another.

- understand the role of financial management in a
firm and how it can support various business
activities. You know the foundations of
decision-support with the help of financial data.

- understand the role of the finance department in
completing statutory tasks as well as providing
business support within the organisation. You know
the main principles for financial accounting,
cost accounting, investment calculations,
budgeting and the financial markets.

- understand the importance of adopting high
standards in conduct and communication

- can communicate in financial terms and interpret
and understand financial statements and internal
financial reporting.

- can make business decisions based on factual
information and data.

- can prepare or request financial calculations to
support decision making.

- can analyse financial performance and make
decisions based on financial data.

- can prepare budgets and investment calculations.

spoken communication.

Assessment requirements

Examination through 4 small individual
assignments submitted to itslearning. Note that
there are pre-assignments, to be handed in before
the lectures! The final assignment carries double
the weight, i.e. max 4 points for that one.

Each assignment gives 0-2 points
A fairly good one = 2
A pretty bad one = 1

No submission, late submission, email-submission,
copy-paste = 0

Grading
10-9 points -> 5
8 points -> 4
7 points -> 3
6 points -> 2
5 points -> 1
Below 5 -> fail

Plagiarism or cheating severely punished ->
kicked out from course

Grades cannot be improved on, given grade stays
