Competency aims

The aim of the course is to teach modern methods for applying materials science knowledge to physical challenges in engineering.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to understand the physical properties of materials, their scientific basis, investigative methods and modern applications.

Lecture material provided in itslearning. Much of this course is based upon three textbooks Tro's "Chemistry: Structure and properties" (Pearson), Shackelford's "Introduction to materials science and engineering" (Pearson) and Callister's "Materials science and engineering" (Wiley).
