Competency aims
This course deals in central issues relating to
basic nursing. This is the first of seven
clinical courses that contribute toward
increasing the competence of clinical nursing.
The main aim of this course is that the student
will become aware of their professional
identity, and possess a base in both
theoretical knowledge and practical skills
required when working in culturally diverse,
clinical settings.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student shall
have basic theoretical knowledge and practical
skills in basic nursing. Specifically, the
student shall be able to: (i) demonstrate the
competencies and knowledge to meet the
patient's health barriers and identify the
patient?s health resources; (ii) under
supervision, is increasingly able to plan,
implement and evaluate holistic care within the
clinical setting that includes caring for
patients from different cultures and religions;
(ii) work toward and contribute to a climate
that is internationally permissive; (iii) can
demonstrate competence in infection control and
can operate aseptically; (iv) implement basic
clinical care activities.

- basic care
- palliative and end of life care
- systematic documentation and reporting
- aseptic work and infection control
- medication administration

The first lecture and lessons in the simulation
center are compulsory.

Assessment requirements
To accomplish the course the students shall
participate and pass oral and practical skill
demonstrations exercises during contact days in
the simulation center. The student shall
