Course contents

What does it mean to work with culture and media in the sharing economy? An economy dominated by a digital existence, immense success for companies like Google, Facebook, Uber and AirBnB, an insecure labor market with snooping jobs and increased performance requirements, an abundance of information, consumption demands and climate anxiety, as well as a desire for alternatives and meaningful life. The course contains five parts: 1) Culture and media in the sharing economy 2) The insecure working life 3) Moving consumer roles and networks 4) The importance of self-management and life management 5) A variety of networks, services and platforms (analysis assignment with seminar where the students present their cases) We examine the sharing economy on a broad front and from several perspectives, but initially a sharing economy is defined as follows: the part of the economy where peers give each other access to underutilized resources, property as well as services, against or without payment. This can be done using digital platforms or through analog ways. However, it is common for resources to be shared with users beyond their own circle of acquaintances. (SOU 2017, 64).

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Participants are expected to have basic knowledge of media and culture. Otherwise, the course is open to all specializations in media culture, as well as to students in cultural production.
