Competency aims
The aim of the course is to introduce knowledge theory, so that the student will be able to understand and evaluate different forms of knowledge , and therefor is prepared to read and understand research in their own field of competence.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to;
- understand the meaning of the concepts knowledge and scientific knowledge and different forms of knowledge
- understand different ways creating knowledge
- be able to critically read and evaluate research articles in their own field of competence
- understand the theory concept both in NSc and HSc
- understand basic scientific concepts like truth, intersubjectivity, generalizability, validity, reliability
Course contents
What is a theory of knowledge.Ontology and epistemology. Knowledge, belief and truth. Forms of knowledge. To understand and explain. Critical approch and rationality. Scientific knowledge and science. Strategies for producing knowledge. The scientific process and basic concepts in science.The importance of a god theory.

Additional information
According to each lecture literature will be recommended and an assignment handed out that will be done within the own educational programme. The assignments add up to an essay that will be handed in to the examinator.
