Did you know that 155 million kilos of food are thrown away in Finland every year? Arcada participates in the Food Waste Week 23-29 September with the aim of raising awareness about food consumption and food waste.
This year, the campaign is especially aimed at young adults. The theme of this year's campaign week is vegetables, and how you can increase the amount of vegetables in your diet in a variety of ways - while helping to reduce the amount of vegetables thrown away. You can find more information and useful tips here (in Finnish). https://www.kuluttajaliitto.fi/havikkiviikko/ External link
Food waste is edible food for human consumption that is not consumed. It occurs at all stages of the food chain, but especially in households.
Help us reduce food waste at the Arcada restaurant
Arcada participates in the Food Waste Week as part of the Green Office programme. The restaurant at campus continuously monitors food waste throughout the year to raise awareness. During the first four weeks of the academic year, food waste has ranged from as low as 16 grams per person per day to as high as 42 grams. Join us in the challenge to keep food waste under 20 grams per person!
Want to take home food and help reduce the amount of food that ends up in the trash? If there is any leftover lunch, you can buy a takeaway box from the restaurant at 12:55 Mon-Fri. A 750 ml food box costs 4 euros.
