Chat GPT and other AI-supported tools are having a revolutionary impact on the education sectorand the working life. Higher education institutions are now facing a situation where they need to set up new procedures for the responsible use of these tools.
Chat GPT is a text-generating chatbot that can answer questions and write longer texts using artificial intelligence. The tool can be used to map data and information, but the text produced is the result of a variety of sources and is generated by statistical probability. The ability to critically review is therefore more important than ever.
Arcada's role as a UAS is to train experts with a broad set of skills and an ability to apply knowledge and use it in practice. It is therefore important that our students are prepared to use artificial intelligence when working.
Arcada encourages students to use Chat GPT and similar tools for mapping and background information, but stresses that the content always needs to be fact-checked. Students take responsibility for the critical review but are supported in developing the skills needed for this by the UAS. In addition, Arcada always requires source reference for material that is not self-produced.
The examination formats are being reviewed to include the use of AI-supported tools. The key features of an examination should be reflection, application and critical thinking, which an AI tool cannot produce.
