As an educational actor, Arcada has an important role when it comes to sustainable social development. We participate in the national Energy Saving Week 10–16.10.2022 and want to encourage conscious and responsible energy consumption.

What do we do? As a UAS, we strive to keep our use of energy low.

  • On our roof there are solar panels that generate energy that is used on our campus.
  • We strive for low energy consumption through e.g. LED lights, adapted air conditioning and energy efficient equipment in our facilities.
  • Our revolving doors will close at 5 p.m. on weekdays.
  • We are members of the Green Office and monitor the use of energy (heat), electricity, water and paper, and adopt and encourage sustainable alternatives.

What can you do? Arcada’s Green Office team shares some ideas on how to save energy at home.

  • Two thirds of the energy consumed in your home is used for heating and hot water.
  • Lowering the room temperature by one degree will reduce your consumption by 5% a year. The recommended room temperature is 20-22 degrees.
  • Take a shower instead of a bath. Take shorter, cooler showers. Don't let the tap run.
  • LED lights are energy efficient. Turn off unnecessary lighting.
  • Heat the sauna to 70-80 degrees. Heating the sauna to 100 degrees increases energy consumption by 20%.
  • The recommended temperature for the fridge is +5 degrees and for the freezer -18 degrees. Each degree colder increases electricity consumption. Do not put food in the fridge until it has cooled down completely. Do not open the fridge door unnecessarily.
  • Use the oven efficiently by also using pre- and post-heating. It is not necessary to preheat a fan-assisted oven.
  • Run full dishwashers and washing machines.
