Several Finnish higher education institutions have recently reported scam incidents targeting international students. The scammers have contacted students by phone, WhatsApp, and video calls while pretending to represent the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) or the police. In some cases, they have even appeared in police uniforms during video calls.
Students have been asked to provide online banking credentials and other sensitive personal information and have been threatened with consequences such as deportation if they refuse.
Please remember that Finnish authorities will never ask for online banking credentials, passwords, or other sensitive information by phone, WhatsApp, or video call. If you receive a suspicious call or message, do not share any personal information and end the conversation immediately.
