Each year, Arcada appoints an Alumnus of the Year – an engaged and positive ambassador for our UAS. Members of staff, students and alumni are invited to submit nominations.
The Alumnus of the Year honour is awarded to a graduate who acts as a positive and committed ambassador for Arcada. Every year, many excellent nominations are submitted, but only one alumnus can be selected. You are welcome to nominate the same person again if they have not previously been chosen, or through in a new candidate and explain why you would like to put forward him/her.
Please remember to provide a clear motivation for your nomination. The jury is not personally familiar with all alumni, so it is important to highlight the nominee’s broad engagement and to explain in what ways the alumnus serves as a role model.
Criteria for selection as Alumnus of the Year:
- Graduated from Arcada or one of its predecessor institutions
- An engaged alumnus (for example, serving as a guest lecturer, acting as a working life contact, mentoring students, supporting Arcada’s fundraising activities, etc.)
- Only nominated alumni can be selected
- Not employed by Arcada and not a member of the jury selecting the Alumnus of the Year
- The Alumnus of the Year is not awarded posthumously

The Alumnus of the Year is selected by a jury consisting of a representative from ASK, one of the Dean’s, the previous year’s Alumnus of the Year, and the Head of communications. The award is presented in connection with the opening of the academic year.
