The Arcada Group is helping to realise an expansion of student housing on campus. Groundwork is expected to begin as early as next week, and the building is scheduled to be ready in 2027.
Plans to expand the Arcada campus have been in place for a long time but were delayed due to the pandemic and global political developments. The Majstången building will be a six-story residential property with approximately 150 student apartments (117 studios, 28 one-bedroom units, and 5 two-bedroom units).
Construction Start and Practical Information
The new building, Majstången, will be constructed between Prakticum and the student housing buildings adjacent to Prakticum from Arcada’s perspective. Construction begins in week 41 (6–10 October, 2025). Exactly how the construction work will affect daily life in the main building will become clearer in the coming weeks. However, the passage from the main building to Arcadahallen will remain open throughout the construction period.
Financing Without Impact on the UAS’ Budget
The project is financed through state-supported Varke funding (formerly “ARA”), including interest protection and government guarantees. A new company, Fastighets Ab Majstången, has been established for the project and is owned 60% by Fastighets Ab Arcada Nova and 40% by Hanken – the same ownership structure as in the Majsporten development.
