Create a study plan

To be able to register for a course, you first need to have a study plan on Sisu. There instructions are applicable for Arcada degree students.

When you want to create a study plan on Sisu, please note that:

  • You need a computer to create a study plan. It can not be done on a mobile phone or a tablet. Follow these instructions when creating your study plan.
  • You do not need to fully complete your study plan at this stage. The most important is to add the courses you want to register for. Your study plan can be edited throughout your studies, and does not have to be complete until the day you graduate.

Here you will find an instructional video on how to create a study plan in Sisu External link. We guide you step by step. Below, you can find equivalent instructions in written.

  1. Log on to Sisu External link.
  2. Click on Structure of Studies in the grey bar on the top of the page.
  3. Click on the button New study plan. In the pop-up window, select your education program in the drop-down menu.
  4. In the Create a new study plan pop-up window, choose the correct study program in the drop-down menu. Then, in the drop down menu for curriculum period, choose the academic year when you started your studies at Arcada.
  5. You can edit the name for your study plan. Sisu will always suggest a name automatically but you can change it. Next, select the button Create a plan. Now you have created a study plan in Sisu.
  6. On the right hand side in the plan, you will see the state of your modules and units. You will notice that some are missing selections. Scroll down to overview and verify your study plan. Select sections where you notice courses are missing. Please note that Health Care Students should fill all of the sections, while students in other programs can leave the selection of Development studies to a later stage.
  7. To add courses to your study plan, click on one of the section headers where you see selections are missing. A sidebar will appear. In the sidebar, select all courses you would like to add to the section by clicking on the round selection symbol in the box.
  8. Then return to the top of the page. If you have more than one study plan, please press on the button marked with three dots, then click on 'Select as the primary plan' in the drop-down menu, to indicate that this is the primary study plan you are following.

How to add missing courses to your study plan

This is a crucial step for students that have started their studies before January 1st 2024.

Once you have created your study plan on Sisu, and you have done all selections; this is the next step in case there are completed credits missing from your plan. All of your completed courses may not automatically be displayed in your Sisu study plan, but may have to be added manually.

  • Method 1: Add to the plan

This method works especially well for Development studies or Extension studies for students in Bachelor's degree programmes.
Under the blue bar Add to the plan on the left-hand side of the Structure of studies page (once you have created your study plan), you can find all completed study units that were not automatically included in your study plan. By clicking the arrow next to the course name, Sisu will show you where in your plan you could place the study unit. Similarly, if you happen to delete a study unit from your study plan, you can then find it among the courses listed under the Add to the plan bar. • Method 2: Substitution

This method works especially well for Bachelor's students who have the Curriculum Period 2020-2021 or 2021-2022. During these years Arcada changed the course codes for several courses.
If you have completed a course, but you need to substitute the course with a previously completed one (e.g., a course completed under a different code, in accordance with the previous degree requirements, or a course at the Open UAS), you have to select it as a substituting study unit/course. Go through every course in your plan to find possible substitutions! It's demanding but very rewarding! Watch a short instruction video here External link (no audio).

  • Method 3: Free edit mode

This method works especially well for Master's degree students' Elective studies. Watch a short instruction video here External link (no audio).
