I received a B.Sc. in Physics (2005) and pursued studies of M.Sc. in Physics (2007), both from the National University of Colombia. Later, I moved to Spain where I obtained an M.Sc. in Nanotechnology (2009) and a Ph.D. in Computational Materials Science (2013) both at the University of the Basque Country. After three years of postdoctoral research (2013 – 2016) at Aalto University (Finland) where I researched the optical and structural properties of DNA interacting with metallic nanoparticles at a quantum scale, I switched my research interests towards the area of Machine Learning, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence.

From August 2017 until 2019, I joined Arcada as Researcher and Lecturer. In January 2020, I was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Big Data Analytics and in 2023 I was promoted to Principal Lecturer in Engineering. Since 2022 I'm also the degree programme director of the Master in Big Data Analytics.

I have a very broad range of research interest comprehending, but not limited to, areas such as autonomous intelligent machines, mining of big datasets, clustering of time series, causality, quantum machine learning, extreme learning machines, creative machines, philosophy of artificial intelligence, computer vision, deep reinforcement learning among many others.
