The scope of the Master's degree programme is 90 ECTS. The programme is run as both part-time and full-time studies. Part-time studies allow you to study alongside work. It takes you 1½ year (full-time studies) or 3 years (part-time studies) to complete the degree. The courses comprise scheduled lectures, workshops, seminars and independent studies. Scheduled tuition takes place mainly after 4 p.m. on weekdays and between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays. About 25 % of the degree programme consists of scheduled tuition in class with 75 % conducted as independent studies.

The overall degree programme structure is divided into four areas of competence. The areas include a core knowledge module, core skill module, a supporting module and the Master's thesis project.

Core Knowledge Module (30 ECTS)

These modules include the knowledge substance of the Master's degree programme. There are two knowledge modules and if you wish you can choose to replace one of these with an optional Nordic module. The two knowledge modules are conducted at Arcada, whereas the optional Nordic module is conducted at a Nordic partner university in Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Iceland. The purpose of the knowledge modules is to support your competence development by broadening your understanding of certain key areas in marketing and leadership.

There are two alternative Core Skills Modules: the Nordic and the FinTech Skill modules.



The Nordic Skills module (15 ECTS)

In this part of the degree programme the skills to grow in the Nordic market are developed. You will gain both an understanding and an ability to plan and execute activities for entering a new Nordic market. You will also get practical tools for analyzing, planning, establishing, and developing the position of a company in the Nordic market. The courses included in the module are:

  • Analyzing the Nordic business environment
  • Planning and preparing market entry in a Nordic country
  • Establishing and developing your market position in a Nordic country

The Financial Technology (FinTech) Skills module (15 ECTS)

This part of the degree programme is designed to give the student the necessary conceptual knowledge of what Financial Technology entails and how the industry has developed. Furthermore, you will gain insight into opportunities, challenges and risks relating to and created by these emerging, innovative technologies, as viewed from the perspective of startups, investors and academia. The courses included in the module are:

  • FinTech in the past, present and future
  • FinTech for financial transactions
  • Data and analytics for FinTech

Support Module (15 ECTS)

The role of the support module is mainly to support your own competence development, especially when it comes to the Master’s thesis project. The elective course can be conducted in another Nordic country. The support module courses are:

  • Research Methodology
  • Thesis Workshop
  • Elective Studies

Master’s Thesis Project (30 ECTS)

The Master’s thesis project may consist of a development project for a client or your employer followed by a thesis report. It may also be an independent study conducted for the purpose of advancing understanding of some topical business related issue. Students start working on their thesis project already in the early stages of the degree programme. Based on the development needs of the client/employer you may develop the thesis project in workshops organized during the whole course of the study process. Research workshops provide you with guidance related to scientific writing and research methodology.
