In general, the degree thesis is written in the language of the degree programme. A short abstract of about 200–300 words is always included at the beginning of the thesis.
Application to write in another language
In exceptional cases, the degree thesis may be written in a language other than the language of the degree programme. This requires permission from the Dean for School.
Students must apply for permission via the e-lomake form . The Dean for School makes the decision, based on a recommendation from the supervisor. An approved exception could, for example, be if the thesis is carried out as part of a project conducted in another language.
If the thesis is written in a language other than the language of the degree programme, the student must also:
- Write a longer summary in the language of the degree programme
- Ensure the summary covers approximately 10 percent of the thesis
- Place the summary at the end of the thesis, before the list of references
- Indicate clearly in the table of contents that the thesis includes a longer summary in the language of the degree programme
