The aim of the course is to give the student basic
skills in business mathematics and statistics.

After course completion the student is expected
to

• master percentage calculations
• understand how value added tax is calculated
• understand how indexes are calculated and what
  they are used for
• know how to perform interest and currency
  calculations
• be familiar with different types of credit
  forms and ways to perform investment
  calculations
• understand the basics of price setting
• understand basic statistical concepts and
  methods and
• know how to use SPSS for some elementary
  statistical data processing processing

Basic skills in mathematics

Business Math

The course program, how we work on the course,
and the contents of the math course, can be
found
in the Mathematics compendium (Part 1) which can
be downloaded from Itslearning.

Mathlab will be held four times; the timetable
is
available in the Mathematics compendium (part
1).

The Statistics compendium (Part II) will be
available on Itslearning when the statistics
part
of the course begins.

Attendance on the lectures and practice exams is
warmly recommended - and for many a necessity
for
passing the course - but not mandatory.

To pass the course, each part of the course must
be separately passed, hence you need to get a
minimum of 25 (of 50) points in the math exam,
and a minimum of 25 (of 50) points in the
statistics exam.

Bonus points for practice exams in mathematics
(max 4 points) will be added to mathematics exam
points.
Bonus points for the practice exam in statistics
(max 2 points) and points for a voluntary
statistics assignment (max 10 points) will be
added to statistics exam points.
