Dear Arcada students,
Soon it is the season to be jolly… however, the holidays can also be a difficult time for many families that are financially struggling to make ends meet. Especially this year when so many people have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. At Arcada we have for the last three years been challenging student and staff to participate in a collective attempt to make the holiday season a better experience for people in need.
You probably know how Christmas advent calendars work: every day you open a box to reveal a surprise. At Arcada we are organising a reversed calendar and hope that every day one of you gives something away instead. Before Christmas we will donate this gifts to people in need. This is done through the charity Apuna ry Avustus group and The Salvation Army. There are all kinds of people that need help due to difficult life circumstances such as unemployment, illness etc. Recipients of help will be families, individuals, elderly people, immigrants and others.
The gifted items need to be new, not used. Your donations can be giftwrapped if you want, but then you need to add a note explaining who the gift is suitable for (ex. girl 4-6 yrs, adult woman/man etc.). Items that are good to donate are:
- non-perishable food items (tea, coffee, biscuits, sweets etc.)
- personal hygiene items (shampoo, soap, toothpaste etc.)
- books, magazines, games, candles
- toys for children
- pet supplies
Donations can be dropped off at the info desk on the second floor from Monday the 30th of November until Tuesday the 15th of December. If you cannot come to Arcada to donate something but still wish to participate then please send a message to Pamela Gray, firstname.lastname@example.org and we can discuss how you can help.
We hope that you all have a possibility to take part in our charity event, individually or as a group. Spread the word and remember that even the smallest of donations might make a big difference in the lives of some families.
