The programme in advanced clinical care, with focus on patient safety, is primarily targeted at nurses, paramedics, midwives, public health nurses and physiotherapists.
The studies provide you with versatile knowledge in different evidence-based perspectives concerning the concept patient safety. The learning focuses on safety and how risks within care can be prevented and controlled. The education emphasises different forms of leadership, teamwork and decision-making within patient safety.
The education gives you the competence to work in charge of questions within the area patient safety, with basis in your own clinical competence. The education signifies an extension of knowledge and skills within patient safety and develops your qualifications for such professional activity that requires leadership and teamwork, independence and decision-making as well as research-, development- and innovation activities within your own field.
The Master’s thesis is focused on development issues within specific areas in professional life. It can provide you with an opportunity for development within your own field of interest.
The demand for qualified staff in Finland is great and will increase further within sports, social- and healthcare. As the duties and responsibilities become more specialised, the competence requirements also increase. You receive the formal eligibility to apply for positions requiring a master’s degree from a UAS (a master's degree from an UAS corresponds to a master’s degree from a university).
Research, development and innovation
Research, development and innovation (RDI) is a daily mode of operating that is strongly integrated in the education. The RDI-activities are a driving force in all knowledge development within the institution. The education at Arcada is research-centred and the institution has the general mission of spreading knowledge in society. The students are tied to the RDI-activities e.g. through tasks in projects that the staff is engaged in. Master’s theses and various projects is part of the research- development and innovation activities. The students have an active role in these activities e.g. through contacts to working life and the collaboration created within the framework of developing knowledge and competence in professional life. Students who study for a master’s degree are strongly involved in Arcada’s different research and development projects.
The overall goal of Arcada is to both internally and externally create an environment for internationally acclaimed RDI-activities, which transgresses borders between diverse professional fields and which is focused on different working environments in which the results then are applied and increase the prerequisites for an evidence-based mode of operating.
The RDI-activities at Arcada focus on strong research bases and centres of excellence. These give a stable and vital foundation for the operations In the RDI-activities theory and practice are merged to an integrated competence. Research in centres of excellence is conducted primarily within wellbeing at work, patient safety and in the development of social- and healthcare services. The purpose is to create dynamism in Arcada’s research and development activities. The established RDI profile areas within the department of health and welfare are strongly connected to laboratory environments, e.g. the smart kitchen, FysioSporttis, Arabia, the Patient Safety and Learning Centre (APSLC) and the Health test laboratory. The primary purpose of these is to form an RDI base for the respective competence areas at both bachelor and master level.
Those who have graduated with a master’s degree can apply to participate in licentiate or doctoral studies at a university. The university assesses individually for each case whether the applicant has sufficient knowledge and skills for university postgraduate education. Certain supplementary studies can often be required.
