Competency aims

The aim of the course is to contribute to
develop the student's competence in caring for
patient's suffering from different kind of
crisis, dependency, drug abuse and basic mental
problems.

The student develops her/his competence in the
contextual clinical care. The student forms
her/his competence in the assessment and care
of the patient who needs emergency care.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is
expected to be able to identify,to encounter
and to take care of patient's i different type of
crisis and abuse problems.

The student recognizes and is able to encounter
mental aspects in caring.

The student gets to know the basics of
policlinical care.

The student also understands the principles of
receiving a patient at the emergency room,
patient assessment and monitoring the patient.

Students needs to know the basics for in-
hospital advanced resuscitation.

Course contents

- different types of crisis
- crisis care
- crisis service
- different types of abuse problems
- basic knowledge in mental health care

- introduction to the emergency care
- recieving and assessing the patient with an
acute emergency at the emergency room (ABCDEF,
NEWS)
- multiprofessional team work
- the chain of care: prehospital care - care at
the emergency ward - care at the ward
- medication administration

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Accomplished before participating in the
course:

Clinical care I and II
Medication administration and patient safety
Anatomy and physiology

At least one practical training (minimum of 5
weeks)

Additional information

Introduction lecture is mandatory.
Simulations and skill stations are mandatory and
can not be compensated with any assignments.
