Competency aims
Within this study unit we will focus on the
following
competencies:
To recognize specific treatment activities and
forms
of care on departments for acute and critically
ill
patients, either emergency department or intensive
care, depending on your own choice.
Have the ability to use the technology and methods
necessary for working with critically ill patients
on
an emergency department or intensive care.
To be able to apply anesthesia care-related
methods in
practice and understand the importance of a
patient
safety-centered work in anesthesia.
Learning outcomes
Once you have completed the study unit you
will have (mention knowledge, skill,
attitude):
Be able to draw motivated conclusions related
to patient care and status, based on patients?
vital signs and changes in those.
Can describe the caring process and pathways
of the critically ill patient (for instance;
emergency department, MET team or trauma team,
surgery, intensive care)
Understand the functions and use of MET teams
(Medical Emergency Teams) inside hospitals.
You can, to the best of your abilities, follow
and take part in the preparation, care and
post-care of a patient who has undergone
anesthesia.
You can safely perform anesthesia care and
apply that to intensive care or emergency care
settings.
You recognize and can use the equipment,
material, tools and instruments as well as the
most common medicine related to anesthesia
care
You have the ability to the human aspect
behind the crucially ill patient and meet all
relatives and patients with respect, dignity
and compassion.
You can reflect over the ethical aspects of
emergency or intensive care related issues.
As a part of the multi-professional caring
team on either emergency department or
intensive care, you can participate in the
decision-making process around patient care
As a part of the multi-professional caring
team on either emergency department or
intensive care, you can treat and care for a
critically ill or injured patient.
You can plan and execute assessment,
monitoring and stabilization of vital
functions in patients admitted to emergency
room or intensive care
You can utilize cognitive aids (checklists and
memory aids) and understand their importance
in safe anesthesia care
You understand the induction process and can,
to the best of abilities and possibilities,
train iv cannulation, ventilation and securing
of airways
