Competency aims

In this study unit the focus lies on the following competencies:

- The student knows causes, symptoms, examination,
treatment and rehabilitation principles in the most common neurological diseases, injuries and disabilities.

- The student understands the sensorimotor control of the nervous system in healthy people and can pay attention to the withdrawal symptoms that occur at neurological abnormalities.

- The student deepens his knowledge in motor control and learning and practices assessing the neurological patient's resources and possibility.

- The student can apply physiotherapeutic training methods to improve the neurological patient's ability to move and function.

- the student understands the rehabilitation principles of client-centredness, multiprofessional teamwork and has the ICF as a theoretical reference for the rehabilitation

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to understand:

The neurologicalsystems physiology in order to correctly choose relevant methods for physiotherapy assessment, training, supervision and evaluation for people with neurological diseases and injuries.

The student is expected to be able to consider different movement techniques aspects.

The student is expected to be able to document
the physiotherapy process and act as part of a multi-professional team.

The student can relate to previous knowledge and skills and apply these to people with neurological diseases and injuries.

Course contents

The sensomotor system of the central nervous system and its regulation.

Loss of function and their significance for the patient.

Investigation, assessment, problem definition, goal setting, actions and evaluation regarding the neurological patient.

Various neurological diseases and injuries: MS, stroke and Parkinson's.

Written exam Assessment 0-5 which constitutes the key word for the course

After completing the theory part, we have simulation exercises, which are mandatory.
