Competency aims

The aim of the study is that the student have
knowledge and abilities to care for the patient in
clinical situations.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected
to:
- Understand the meaning of patient safety
- be able to perform basic clinical interventions
- answer to the patient's physical, mental and
spiritual needs.
- be able to identify the needs of adult, elderly
and dying patients and to communicate with them
and their relatives
- understand the significance of hygiene and be
able to act aseptically
- be aware of different types of drugs and their
effect on the organism
- understand the responsibility of handling drugs
and work according to regulations
- identify and define the main concepts in
pharmacotherapy
- perform dosage calculation correctly and thus
grant patient safety
- see the connection between patient safety and
medication administration
- instruct the patient in questions related to
drug administration

Medication administration and dosage calculation
1,5 sp
In medication administration and dosage
calculation a basic test in mathematics is
included. This test has to be accomplished to get
the grade in medication administration and dosage
calculation.
After completion of medication administration and
dosage calculation students have five dosage
calculation tests with five calculation tasks in
each. These tests are arranged twice per academic
year.

Assessment requirements

Exam in basic mathemathics is a requirement for a
grade in medication administration and dosage
calculation. To get accomplished you need to have
60% correct answers in the test.

Exam in medication administration and dosage
calculation
The exam is divided into two parts: A theoretical
part and a part with dosage calculation. The
theoretical part is marked with the grades 1-5.
The calculation part is marked accomplished/not
accomplished.
