Competency aims

This course serves to deepen the theoretical
knowledge in the pathophysiology of human
diseases as applied in the clinical context,
focusing on patient safety. It also functions
as a base for succeeding courses in clinical
nursing.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students are expected
to
be able to:
-discuss the etiology, signs and symptoms,
complications and prognosis of the most common
diseases.
-identify appropriate diagnostic examinations,
- explain the treatment alternatives, their
mechanisms, including risk, side-effects and
prognosis

Course contents

4 cr: Anaphylaxis, sepsis, viral hepatitis,
pancreatitis, mononucleosis, inflammatory
bowel disease and ulcer, hernia, gallstones,
renal failure, urinary tract infection, venous
thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, aortic
aneurysm and dissection, burns, migraines, spinal
cord injury, skin and brain trauma as well as
brain tumors.
