Competency aims
The aim of the course is that the student gets
a general view of body's structure and function
during exercise. The student familiarizes with
basic exercise physiology and physiological
effects of physical activity. The student knows
the physiological background of different
physical qualities, understands the
adaptational processes in the body after physical
training and knows how exercise affects the
physiological functions in the human body. In
addition, the student develops his/her general
competences by learning together and cooperating
in
a group and by sharing information and own
knowledge with others.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is
expected to be able to
- Explain the basic concepts in exercise
physiology
- Understand and describe metabolism in different
exercise performances
- Describe body's acute physiological responses
and chronic adaptations to different kind of
physical activity
- Know the basic regulation mechanisms (nervous
system and hormonal system) in exercise
physiology
- Understand what performance development is
physiologically based on
- Execute basic measurements in exercise
physiology
- Write a report about practical measurements
in exercise physiology
Course contents
In the course we discuss physiology in healthy
individuals during acute and chronic exercise.
We concentrate on
- Basic principles of exercise physiology
- Function of the neuromuscular system during
exercise
- Metabolism
- Function of the cardiorespiratory system
during exercise
- Hormonal system
- Training effects
